Embedding Equity and Inclusion in Infrastructure

Watch on demand

Investment in sustainable infrastructure provides an opportunity support green and inclusive communities. It is hard to find anyone to disagree with the principle that infrastructure should work for everyone, and that care should be taken to maximise social impacts and reduce harms. But how does this work in practice? This Talk will see Laura Walker, Associate Director, Equality and Social Impact and Nina Schuler, Technical Director – ESG and Social Impact at AECOM, outline effective frameworks, tools, incentives and innovations for making sustainable infrastructure work for and with communities.

The Role of Technology in Natural Capital Accounting

Watch on demand

Natural capital is moving from a buzzword to a critical approach in helping organisations to better understand their impacts and dependencies on the natural world. Technology has an important role in making natural capital accounting more accessible, achievable and accurate. Michael Aquilina, Environmental Consultant, Natural Capital and Environmental Net Gain at AECOM, will explore some of the challenges currently faced in the field, the key opportunity areas and how AECOM are using their award-winning Natural Capital Laboratory to apply innovative technology to a real-life project.

Energy Auditing – How to Implement Effective Decision Making

Watch on demand

In recent years energy auditing has become a compliance exercise within the UK and Europe through ESOS and EDD regulations. This has in certain circumstances devalued the work. However, in the drive towards net zero, energy audits provide a clear baseline of current operational scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions and an insight into existing operational practices. This talk will explore how to deliver high quality energy audits and supplement the on-site time with further decarbonization expertise for renewables, heat migration, electrification of heat, future fuels and transport assessments.

Using TNFD to create the business case for action

Watch on demand

The final recommendations from the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) were released in September and we are likely to see increasing demands from investors and other stakeholders for businesses to report on nature-related issues. Is this yet another ESG burden for organisations, or could it be a crucial tool to help businesses to understand and mitigate risks and dependencies and capitalise on opportunities? This Expert Talk will see Sally Vivian, Carbon & Advisory Director at AECOM explore how to use the TNFD recommendations to create the business case for action.

Green Hydrogen – Best Practices and Challenges of Implementation

Watch on demand

No and low carbon hydrogen is seen as a key part of decarbonisation of the energy system - not a week goes by without an announcement about a new mega project, a national plan, or an industry transforming trial. Although there is uncertainty around the future uses of hydrogen, the demand from its existing uses can be captured and, in times of uncertain fossil prices, no-carbon hydrogen can be increasingly competitive. In this talk, AECOM will discuss how they are working with clients to unlock these challenges, with case studies to explain how these challenges are being overcome.

The Challenge of Scope 3 Emissions in Creating and Implementing a Credible Net Zero Transition Plan

Watch on demand

Credible net zero transition plans require a robust understanding of all GHG emissions, including scope 3. However, global climate targets and organisational goals are looming and many organisations still don’t have a plan for how to achieve said targets. In this Expert Talk, Ian Davies, Technical Director  and Hayley Maynard, Principal Sustainability Consultant at AECOM, will discuss the importance of the considering the value chain (scope 3), the challenges around reporting, and practical steps for those at the start of their climate transition planning journey.

Grid Constraints and the Transition to Net Zero

Watch on demand

The grid in the UK is constrained, slowing down the country in its push towards net zero. This is one of the most significant challenges for the regulators as well as developers, with many connections dates now being beyond 2030. Is the scale of the problem truly understood? The traditional approach to delivery including developing organically over longer periods is no longer going to achieve the outcomes required. The accelerated requirements of the network development need a fundamental change in philosophy to deliver. In this Expert Talk, speakers from AECOM will explore these grid constraints in the transition to net zero.
